The residents of the Dadar's Shivaji Park, on Monday, June 22, staged a silent protest stating that the officials from the Municipal Corporation have been cremating many bodies of deceased coronavirus patients, at the Shivaji park Cemetery. As per updates, the decision is now expected from the High Court. RTI activist Ketan Tirodkar reached out to advocate who has filed a PIL with regards to the same. On Tuesday, Chief Justices Dipankar Datta and Makrand Karnik held the preliminary hearing and the court has directed the Municipal Corporation to take care of the same.

The next hearing is now scheduled on Friday, and in the petition, Thirodkar has requested that all COVI19-related dead bodies should be cremated as per the religions, in accordance with the guidelines issued to ensure safety.

Further, the central government had released guidelines to manage the bodies of patients who passed away due to coronavirus infection. However, residents also complained that the norms were not being followed by the officials. Further, one of the workers at the cemetery has also tested positive.
