According to the latest reports, after two years, the Government of India has decided to revoke the measures enforced under the Disaster Management Act for the COVID-19 containment measures, in accordance with an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday, March 23.  

The order states that after considering the overall enhancement in the situation as well as the government’s preparedness to deal with coronavirus, the authority has undertaken the decision that there is no longer any need to enforce the provisions of the DM Act for COVID-19 containment measures.

However, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare advisories on the coronavirus containment measures that include the utilization of face masks as well as hand hygiene will continue to remain in force.

The Home Secretary in the order added that citizens need to continue to remain vigilant of the situation. Further elucidating that whenever a rise in COVID-19 case is witnessed, the state and union territories should consider prompt action at the local level.

Therefore, the Home Secretary has advised the states and union territories to discontinue the issuance of orders under the DM Act.  But the states have been asked the adhere to the guidelines in a timely manner for containment measures, vaccination as well as observing COVID-19 appropriate behaviour.
