Maharashtra: Restrictions Imposed At Popular Hill Stations

Many curbs have been imposed at hill stations near Mumbai, with local authorities closing down certain popular spots that include tiger reserves as well as national parks.

Considering the rise in COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra and restrictions brought in force by the state government, many curbs have been imposed at hill stations near Mumbai, with local authorities closing down certain popular spots that include tiger reserves as well as national parks, reports stated. 

On Tuesday, January 11, the Matheran Municipal Council shut down many tourist spots at the hill station. In the order issued by Surekha Bhange, the Matheran Chief Executive Officer entailed Charlotte Lake, Alexander Point, Rambag Point, Big Chowk Point, One Tree Hill Point, Eco Point, Louisa Point, Coronation Point, Sunset Point and Monkey Point. However, the mini-train from Aman Lodge to Matheran is still functional.

On the other hand, Panchgani and Mahableshwar have also brought into force certain curbs for tourists. According to accounts, Chief Officer of Panchgani Municipal Council, Girish Dapkekar mentioned that all four spots in his vicinity were closed for tourists.

Likewise, Pallavi Patil, Chief Officer of Mahableshwar Municipal Council stated that the Venna Lake point has been shut for boating. Patil remarked that hotels in their area are functioning at 100 per cent occupancy and that tourists have to show their double vaccination certificates.

Based on accounts, Shekhar Singh, Satara Collector mentioned that an order regulating tourists points owing to a state order banning entry to people in fort amongst other places. Moreover, Elephanta Caves have also been closed.
