The officials are making collective efforts to reduce the COVID-19 cases in the city. This year Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had tightened the restrictions for Ganeshotsav.

However, on Tuesday, September 14, which was the fifth day of the festival, also is the day of visarjan or immersion, the guidelines issued by the BMC were broken.

As per reports, during the immersion on the fifth day, a procession was carried out. Moreover, during the process, instruments such as Benzo, drums, etc., were also seen playing. In addition, the citizens did not follow social distancing. Along with that, most of them were not seen wearing a face mask. Few reports said that Vajantri was also banned during the procession as per the orders released by the state government and the civic body.

BMC, in their guidelines, had also stated that if there is a household Ganapati, only five people will be allowed during the immersion process. And for sarvajanik mandals, only ten people will be allowed for immersion of the idol. However, none of these guidelines was followed on Tuesday.

Of late, government agencies are constantly appealing to the citizens to follow the COVID-19 guidelines and maintain social distancing. The city is likely to see a third wave of COVID-19 next month.

Keeping the same in mind, BMC had released a list of guidelines that were to be followed for this year's Ganeshotsav.
