People in Mumbai are definitely excited about the 'Coastal Road’ project which the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has undertaken in our city. Interesting fact about this coastal road is that it’s going to have a special track for an ambulance to pass.

The track is going to be 2.75m wide. According to Machiwal (Chief Engineer of the Coastal Road Project), the road will also have a cycle track, public park, jogging track and open air space.

This Coastal Road is expected to be 35.6 km long with a sum of INR 5303.34 Cr (now that’s a lot of money) expected to be spent on phase 1 of the project. Tenders are being invited to appoint a contractor for the project.

Construction of Phase 1 of this project will roll out in December later this year according to Machiwal who stated this in the Standing Committee meeting.

34 per cent fuel to be economised

Coastal Road will have an exclusive route for BRTS and will offer parking facilities as well. There is a claim which says 34 per cent, 350 tonnes of fuel could be economised once the Coastal Road becomes functional. Around $100 million of fuel is expected to be economised in a year according to the committee.

100,000 jobs will be made available

100,000 people will be employed once the project is complete.
