Based on a presentation by the public health department, Pune, Satara, Sangli and Solapur have logged a higher weekly positivity rate (WPR) than the average of the state, reported the Times of India.

In the department’s presentation on Wednesday, the state’s WPR was 3.05%, but seven of its districts had a higher WPR than the average of the state. Even though 28 districts in Maharashtra have a low positivity rate, the state public health department is of the opinion that all of the districts should have a WPR of less than 5%.

According to the report, Satara has the highest WPR at 6.63% followed by Sangli, Pune, Ahmednagar, Beed, Sindhudurg and Solapur at 6.12%, 5.89%, 5.27%, 4.24%, 4.20% and 3.40%. All of these have a WPR higher than that of the average of the state.

Whilst the officials did acknowledge how the cases are dwindling, the level is still at a plateau, but the trend should be of a decline.

With cases of the Delta variant being reported in the state, officials have asked people to remain alert and adhere to the protocols.

In the midst of the anticipated third wave, several relaxations were brought into force by the Maharashtra government recently. Train travel has also been resumed for those fully vaccinated from August 15, in the city.
