The Maharashtra government has passed a bill allowing Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) residents to sell their allotted flats within five years.

Earlier, the rule was to sell these houses under the State Slum Rehabilitation Authority after 10 years.

On Wednesday, December 20, Housing Minister Atul Save informed that the Maharashtra Slum (Reformation, Eradication and Redevelopment) (Second Amendment) Bill 2023 has been passed in both houses of the legislature.

Approximately 2.5 lakh flat holders in SRA, predominantly from Mumbai, are poised to benefit from this decision.

The demand for reducing the period for selling houses in SRA was constantly being made by people's representatives and many organisations in Mumbai. The state government has taken a decision on it today, December 22.

State Minister Atul Save said, in the meeting of the State Council of Ministers held on December 19, 2023, a positive decision was taken to make the period of house sale in SRA 5 years. Today the bill was passed in both houses.

About 2.50 lakh flat holders in the state and mainly in Mumbai will benefit greatly from this. Aadhaar number of flat holders will be attached in future. Therefore, Minister Save gave this information that those taking advantage of this scheme will be stopped.
