After the incumbent of the new government in Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde on Thursday, July 7, promised to allocate land parcels at the Satara-Koregaon region for the Bengaluru-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, work on which has failed to get going due to land acquisition issues. And, the land acquisition process will be started immediately.

He made this statement while addressing at the first apex authority meeting of National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT), which he attended via video conference, was chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Officials said that the state government has identified 6,000 acres to be acquired for the corridor. The development of the corridors is a 50-50 partnership between the state and Centre.

The Bengaluru Mumbai Industrial Corridor is intended to facilitate development of a well-planned and resource-efficient industrial base served by world-class sustainable connectivity infrastructure, bringing significant benefits in terms of innovation, manufacturing, job creation and resource security to these states.

The government expects to attract investment of INR 3 lakh crore. In the first phase, Dharwad in Karnataka (approx. 6,400 acres) and Satara in Maharashtra (approx. 12,355 acres) have been identified as potential nodes.

During his speech, Shinde also stressed on the development of Dighi Port in Ratnagiri and bulk drug parks in the state. The suggestions made by Maharashtra chief minister would be undertaken through PM Gatishakti Yojna.

Currently, the Delhi-Mumbai industrial corridor is in an advanced stage of development with two nodes at Aurangabad and at Dighi in Raigad district. The state has acquired 14,000 acres for the two nodes. The proposed Delhi-Nagpur corridor is still in the conceptual stage with two nodes planned at Nagpur and Amravati.
