'Bike Ambulance' to be introduced in Mumbai today

The Public Health Department has started a new medical emergency service for Mumbaikars and you have to dial ‘108’ if there’s such a situation. You will be provided with the ‘Bike Ambulance’ service. This service is set to roll out on August 2.

A well-trained paramedic will be on the bike ambulance and will come to the spot as soon as possible beating the traffic to make sure the emergency situation is attended to. The ambulance will have oxygen masks, analgesics (painkillers), antiseptics and dressing material.


Road accidents, all serious cases, natural and man-made disasters, heart diseases, poisoning etc. In the event of emergency, this facility will be provided to patients through this service. Presently, this service will be started in Mumbai by 10 bike ambulances on experimental basis. This service will be made available through 108 free helpline. In addition, the expenditure incurred for the project for motorbikes and medical equipment for the project has been made possible by the National Health Mission and the IDBI Bank's CRS.

These 'Motor Bike Ambulances' will be stationed at railway stations, fire stations among other important spots. After Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, Maharashtra is the fourth state in the country to launch 'Motor Bike Ambulance'.
