Water stocks in the seven lakes that supply daily water in Mumbai presently have 1.93 lakh million litres, this is anticipated to suffice the city for the next 51 days, reported the Times of India. If the city has to see no water cuts for the next year, the lakes should have nearly 14.47 lakh million litres which would suffice for almost 304 days.
Tulsi and Vihar lakes (two of the seven) witnessed some rainfall in the last three days. On the other hand, Bhatsa and Modak Sagar registered less rainfall.
The account adds that the aggregate rain registered this season in Tulsi and Vihar has been 117 mm and 125 mm respectively. Similarly, Bhatsa, Tansa, Modak Sagar, Upper Vaitarna and Middle Vaitarna saw 55 mm, 62 mm, 28 mm, 12 mm and 15 mm, respectively.
It has been reported that senior officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) hydraulics department elaborated on how the present water stock will be sufficient till July 30. BMC data also claims that Mumbai's present stock this year is higher than the previous two years'.
Based on the narrative, the last three days of rainfall have given by the city 100 mm of rains. While the monsoon is reported to have arrived in Mumbai on June 11, pre-monsoon showers were seen on June 10.
According to the report, in the 24 hours ending, Sunday, June 12 morning, India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Colaba observatory saw 37.4 mm of rainfall, while that of Santacruz saw 23 mm of rainfall.
Meanwhile, as per a seven-day forecast, Mumbai will receive thundershowers starting in the evenings till June 14. Likewise, the temperature in Mumbai dropped from 35 degrees Celsius a few days ago to 31-32 degrees.
