A 22-year-old student's dream of studying in the UK was shattered when a misspelling in his university name led to his arrest.

Jenil Kankotiya, a resident of Surat, Gujarat, was preparing for an early departure to London from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Terminal (CSMIA) when immigration authorities discovered a discrepancy in his paperwork.

The authorities noticed a mismatch in the spelling of the university name on the student's final degree certificate and course marksheet. Both of the documents were also submitted to the British consulate to obtain his visa.

Upon further questioning, Kankotiya confessed to forging the degree certificate. He revealed that he had given INR 90,000 to an agent named Rahul for the fake degree, hoping to move to the UK for better opportunities.

Following his confession, an FIR was filed against Kankotiya under several sections of the Indian Penal Code related to cheating and forgery. On Tuesday morning, September 26, Kankotiya appeared before a metropolitan magistrate court. Now, he is being held by the police.

The police are now searching for the agent who provided Kankotiya with the fraudulent documents. They are now suspecting involvement in other cases of immigration fraud.
