According to sources, the tender which has been submitted with regards to the rates of the vegetables that are being supplied to the patients in the municipal hospitals in Mumbai, Maharashtra, has been reduced.

Even though the prices of vegetables, fruits and grains have gone up in the market, contractors are coming forward to supply vegetables at cheaper rates to the municipal hospitals in view of the pandemic. Moreover, the prices of onions have been priced at INR 15.99 per kg and pumpkin at INR 5.84 per kg.

On the other hand, amidst the outbreak of the coronavirus, all the agricultural market committees in the Nashik district were earlier ordered to be closed for 10 days. Therefore, the work of the market committee was closed from May 12 to May 21. However, this has not affected the supply of vegetables in Mumbai and suburbs, the committee informed.

Orders had been issued to close all Agricultural Produce Market Committees in the Nashik district from May 12 to May 21, 2021. In paragraph 3 of this order, it had also been clarified that for the benefit of vegetable growers in the Nashik district, the Agricultural Produce Market Committees should decentralize the supply of vegetables at different levels so that the supply of vegetables and fruits remains smooth.

The same order does not impose any restrictions on inter-city and inter-district transport of fruits and vegetables. Since vegetables are completely deregulated, vegetable growers no longer need to bring their produce to the market committee's yard.
