Thane: TMC all set for Gudhi Padwa's 'Swagat Yatra'

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) also participates in the Gudhi Padwa’s Swagat Yatra which is organised every year along with Kopineshwar Cultural Trust. For the upcoming Gudhi Padwa’s Shobha Yatra, Additional Commissioner (1) Sandeep Malvi took a preliminary review of the preparations. Thane Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar has given instructions to provide all possible cooperation for the organisation of the yatra.


The New Year Swagat Yatra will begin from Kopineshwar Temple on Wednesday, March 22 at 7:00 am. Prior to that around 06:45 am, salutations will be made to the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. This Swagat Yatra will pass through Jambli Naka, Chintamani Chowk, Dagdi School, Gajanan Maharaj Temple, Hariniwas Circle, Gokhale Road, Ram Maruti Road, Masunda Lake and Kopineshwar Temple.

Chariots of the Public Works Department, Health Department, Solid Waste Management Department, Education Department, Parks Department, Transport Department, Water Supply Department, Thane Smart City Limited and Pollution Control Department will participate in the welcome procession on behalf of Thane Municipal Corporation. 


Instructions for lighting in Masunda lake area, statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj etc. have been given to the electricity department. So, during Swagat Yatra, the fire department has been asked to deploy vehicles with all facilities. Malvi explained that the water supply department should take special care in making adequate arrangements for drinking water given scorching heat.

On the occasion of this yatra, on Sunday, March 19, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, a dance program will be held by the students of various dance institutes in Thane and their dance teachers. On March 20, flute playing by Gandhar Bhalerao has been organised while on March 21 at 5:30 pm, Gita Pathan, Rudra and Shiva Mahinma sources will be recited. In the evening from 8.30pm to 10:00 pm, history scholar Pandurang Balakawade will give a lecture on Dharmaveer Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. All these programs will be held in the vicinity of Kopineshwar temple.
