Three people were killed and four injured when a rickshaw fell into a drain near Bhumi World on the Mumbai-Nashik highway in Bhiwandi on Wednesday night. Among the dead is a two-year-old girl. All of them had gone for a walk to Juhu Chowpatty in Mumbai and were returning home from there when the accident took place. Due to this incident, there is outrage everywhere.


The deceased have been identified as Munidevi Tony Chauhan (28), Radhadevi Chauhan (30) and Anshika Tony Chauhan (2). So, the names of the injured are Tony Panchulal Chauhan (31), Ravi Chauhan (10), Anjali and Ankita. The injured have been treated and released at home.

Tony Chauhan lives in Titwala area and works as a rickshaw puller. He took his wife Munidevi, daughter Anshika, Anjali, Ankita, son Ravi and sister-in-law Radhadevi in a rickshaw and went for a drive in Mumbai on Wednesday night.  After visiting Juhu Chowpatty in Mumbai, they left for home. While speeding on the Mumbai-Nashik highway, he lost control of the rickshaw in the Bhumi World area of Bhiwandi and the rickshaw fell into a roadside drain. The 15 to 20 feet deep drain had four to five feet of water.

Munidevi, Radhadevi and Anshika died by drowning in it. Whereas, Tony, Ravi, Anjali and Ankita sustained minor injuries. After this incident, the citizens of the area rushed to their aid and also called the police.


The bodies of three people and the injured were taken out from the drain. The bodies of the three have been handed over to their families. A case has been registered against Tony Chauhan for causing an accident by negligently driving a rickshaw, informed Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Pawar of Kongaon Police Station.
