In an instance of complete lockdown violation, the Thane police have registered a case and are on a lookout for youths that were allegedly partying in a private hotel in Thane.

Moreover, this hotel was also used by the police and the hospital staffers as a quarantine centre. This mockery of lockdown norms in a place like Thane that has completely been ravaged by the coronavirus is not only dangerous but extremely irresponsible.

Meanwhile, as per PTI, an addition of 1,323 fresh cases on Tuesday, July 21, took Thane district's COVID-19 tally past the 70,000- mark to 70,513, while the death toll surged by 40 during the day to touch 1,967, as per sources. Kalyan led the list of new cases with 268 people testing positive for coronavirus, followed by 254 in Navi Mumbai.

Amongst the ones who succumbed to the disease was a 52-year-old constable from Hill Line police station under the Thane commissionerate. On the other hand, Palghar clocked 309 fresh cases during the day to take its count to 12,382 while five deaths increased the toll to 223.

The authorities had earlier extended the lockdown in existing and new containment zones in Thane district till July 31. Prior to this, the Thane Municipal Corporation had imposed a complete lockdown from July 2 to 12 which was extended till July 19 in light of the new cases of coronavirus.
