Coronavirus cases across Maharashtra have increased significantly and observing the same, the state government of Maharashtra is currently planning to impose lockdown in some cities. As per reports, three cities in the state might face a strict lockdown and discussions are being held regarding the matter.

A report published on PTO states that the Uddhav Thackeray government is considering lockdown in Yavatmal, Amravati and Akola, and the cabinet has been discussing the cases and conditions to take necessary steps. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, in a media interaction, stated that the Chief Minister had called for a meeting to review the coronavirus crisis in these cities to ensure necessary steps are taken at the right time.

Data released by the state health department reveals that the state, on Wednesday, February 18, witnessed the highest number of cases recorded in 2021, with a total of 4,787 new cases. Observing the same, the government has imposed strict guidelines and appealed to the people to follow the same. Furthermore, the citizens have been asked to stay prepared for a new lockdown if the trend continues.

Ministers have stated that the people have not been following the rules and guidelines, due to which the cases are not under control, and the lockdown would help curb the spread of COVID-19. Negligence in wearing a mask, maintaining social distancing, etc. has worsened the condition, and the spread continues.

On the other hand, Maharashtra government recently imposed strict restrictions for visitors from Kerala and have asked the travellers to undergo a test before entering the cities in the state. In 2020, similar restrictions were imposed for travellers from Delhi, Goa, Gujarat and Rajasthan.
