As per reports, on Monday, September 21, a three-storey building collapsed in Bhiwandi, in the Thane district.

According to the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), Seven children and three others were killed including a four-year-old boy. As the rescue operations are underway, many are feared to be trapped under the rubble. The NDRF team is involved in the rescue operations at the moment. About 25 people have been rescued so far.

The accident which happened at around 3:20 in the morning in the Patel compound of Bhiwandi. The building in question had about 40 flats and around 150 people living in it. However, the building was not in the list of dilapidated structures of the Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation.

Moreover, the power supply to the locality was shut down as a precautionary measure, as per officials. Meanwhile, the injured have been transferred to the nearest hospital.

In recent developments, Maharashtra minister Eknath Shinde visited the site of the incident to take notice of the loss of lives and household in the Bhiwandi building collapse. The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind has further taken to Twitter to offer condolences asserting that the local authorities are conducting relief and rescue operations.
