Officials from the state government of Maharashtra met for a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, September 16, 2020, and implemented some schemes for the benefit of the citizens. One among them was the implementation of Balasaheb Thackeray Road Accidental Insurance Scheme.

As per reports, officials have decided that financial grants will be made available to the State Health Guarantee Society and insurance companies will be selected accordingly. The scheme will benefit people involved in road accidents in Maharashtra, based on which, anyone who meets with an accident will be given proper medical treatment regardless of the state or country.

The scheme will be used to provide prompt medical services and financial assistance to the victims in the state. At present, an average of 40,000 people are injured and 13,000 die in accidents in Maharashtra on state highways and rural roads, and officials discussed that their lives could have been saved,  had they received timely treatment.

Under this scheme, treatment will be provided from the nearest hospitals for the first 72 hours. Furthermore, services of up to INR 30,000 will be provided free of cost for 74 ailments or health conditions. Besides this, the facilities will also include admission in the intensive care unit, treatment at the hospital wards, fractures, as well as hospital meals. However, the insurance policy does not include industrial accidents, daily work or home accidents and train accidents.

A toll-free number will be made available for the ones who want to register any complaint and seek assistance regarding this scheme. This will be implemented through State Health Guarantee Society, Worli.
