The state election commission (SEC) has pushed the deadline for filing objections and suggestion on the ward-wise draft voter lists for the general election of 14 different municipal corporations, include BMC, till July 3, 2022.

This development came after the SEC had announced, few weeks ago, that the ward-wise final voter lists will be released on July 9.

An objection can be lodged if a voter is allotted a wrong ward or if his/her name is not in the voter list. The earlier deadline for filing objections and suggestions was July 1.

This move also came days later the civic body on Tuesday, June 28, took to Twitter to share that the ward-wise draft electoral voter's list for the BMC has been published on its portal on June 23, 2022.

The commission has made available an app also for registering the objections or suggestions.

Ward wise draft voter list has been published for the general elections of Brihanmumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivli, Ulhasnagar, Vasai-Virar, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Solapur, Kolhapur, Nashik, Akola, Amravati and Nagpur Municipal Corporations. Objections and suggestions can be lodged at the Municipal Corporation office or at their authorized place and also through True-Voter mobile app.

In addition, ward wise draft voter lists are also available on respective municipalities, their websites or 'True-Voter' mobile app.

How Can Citizens File Objections?

The 'True-Voter' mobile app can be downloaded to your mobile from 'Play Store'. Accordingly, your name can be found in the ward wise draft voter list and objections, if any, can also be entered. After clicking on the 'Voter List' search menu, you can proceed by entering your name and mobile number. Your complete information will be revealed on searching the name. You can raise your objection by clicking on 'Voters List Objection', selecting 'Voters List Election Schedule 2022' and then going to the appropriate option.

The State Election Commission does not have the power to add or remove new names in the list of assembly constituencies by dividing them into wards. If a voter is allotted a wrong ward or his name is not in the electoral roll of the corporation, even if his name is in the Vidhan Sabha voter list, an objection can be filed.

Here's the latest developments so far:

Earlier, the draft voters' list for the 24 civic wards was to be published on June 17. However, the state pushed it to June 23. In light of this, the final list which was to be made public on July 1 will now be declared on July 9.

This year, the BMC elections have been delayed owing to the controversy around the OBC reservation. While the elections are supposed to be conducted without the OBC quota, the lottery for other reservations was recently drawn.

However, the state is putting together empirical data for the OBC quota to be able to submit it to the court so it can be enforced. Additionally, the judiciary had permitted the SEC to postpone the elections in those cities where monsoon is heavy.
