On Saturday, May 28, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commenced administering COVID-19 vaccines to children, at eight tourist spots across Mumbai, reports stated.

According to accounts, these vaccines can also be given to those adults who require their first or second doses. In addition to this, booster doses will also be given to senior citizens, healthcare workers or frontline workers. 

BMC executive health officer, Dr Mangala Gomare was quoted in narratives elaborating on how considering it is the summer vacations, families visit these tourist spots. Owing to this phenomenon, they decided to put up booths at tourist locations. 

Reports suggest that under 10 per cent of the children in the 12-14 age group in Mumbai are completely inoculated while the figure in Maharashtra stands at 24 per cent.

It has been reported that the drive has commenced at tourist spots that include the likes of Gateway of India, Jehangir Art Gallery and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum, Byculla's Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Gardens and Zoo, Andheri's Mahakali Caves, Snow world Pheonix mall in KurlaAarey Colony's Chhota Kashmir Boating Club and Kidzania in Ghatkopar's R City Mall. 

Amid the recent uptick in coronavirus cases reported in the state and the city, Maharashtra cabinet minister, Aslam Shaikh had voiced that if the numbers continue to increase the state would reassess the condition to reinforce certain curbs that include the likes of compulsory wearing of masks in public places.
