Amid rising coronavirus cases over last few days across Maharashtra, the Mumbai guardian minister Aslam Shaikh hinted of restrictions again if daily COVID-19 positive cases exceed thousand in the state. In addition, he also warned of the lockdown if cases to continue to rise.

While talking to reporters, Shaikh stated that given the pace at which patients are growing, restrictions will have to be put in place. Restrictions on airlines are still in place. If people don't take care, the possibility of sanctions cannot be ruled out.

This development comes at a time when experts have anticipated a fourth wave in June-July this year.

Meanwhile, the minister also mentioned that the state government is keeping a close tab on the situation and would take a call on the restrictions considering the prevailing situation.

On Sunday, May 29, Mumbai recorded 375 COVID-19 cases – up from 330 on Saturday, May 28 — with zero deaths.

On the other hand, Maharashtra reported a death and 550 new positive cases, 21 more than the previous day, which raised the overall tally to 78,85,944. whereas on Saturday, the state had recorded 529 cases, but no virus-related death.

Owing to this, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has directed assistant commissioners of the 24 administrative wards in the city to ramp up testing.
