Mumbai traffic police are investigating after a biker claimed on Twitter that a uniformed officer demanded a bribe from him using GooglePay.

According to the complaint, the biker named Jason Coelho, was stopped for biking in the opposite direction on Western Express Highway (WEH).

The officer demanded a bribe of INR 500 to avoid a fine of INR 2,000 and provided a QR code for payment via GooglePay. Despite the biker's request for a challan to be issued for payment later, no challan was provided.

The traffic department tweeted a call for the biker to come forward, which led to an officer from the Jogeshwari traffic division being involved in the incident. The officer took the biker's statement and located the officer who had accepted the money. Following an investigation, the traffic department found that the account receiving the bribe payment belonged to Amit Pandey and not a traffic police officer.
