The Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan and Zoo or the Mumbai Zoo on Tuesday, February 16, launched its official social media pages on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram to provide in-depth information about the same in collaboration with a private organization.

The social media page was launched by Mayor Kishori Pednekar at the 3D Theater in Rani Bagh. Rani Bagh's official social media page is another milestone for Mumbai. Moreover, according to sources, animals from other countries and states will soon be brought to the Mumbai Zoo. Discussions are underway with them with regards to the same.

Meanwhile, Mumbai’s Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan and Zoo, also known as Byculla Zoo, has reopened following a year of closure as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The zoo officially opened for public on Monday, February 15. Moreover, as per the officials, 1,419 people visited the facility, generating approximately ₹69,600 in ticket sales. However, entrance for seniors at Byculla zoo is free of cost.

Despite more than a thousand visitors at the zoo, the officials said that this is significantly lesser than the pre-pandemic weekday average of 5,000 to 6,000 people and up to 15,000 on some weekends.

One of the fanciest attractions for visitors is two Royal Bengal Tigers named Shakti and Karishma. The tigers were brought over from Siddharth Garden and Zoo in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad city in February 2020. They were on view along with the crowd favourite Humboldt Penguins.
