After monsoon's slow start in Mumbai, the city had major concern regarding the shortage of water supply. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had even declared that the lakes supplying water to Mumbai might run dry by the end of July. However, in the last three days, there has been tremendous downpour, which has resulted in a rise in the water levels of the lakes.

In what can be called good news for Mumbaikars, the water reserves have seen a rise as the rainfall has increased the lake's water levels, enough to supply for eight additional days.
Since Sunday morning, the water reserve in the lakes has risen to 17,000 lakh litres. Accordingly, the civic body is expecting the water reserve to reach 14,47,000 lakh liters by October 1. Every day, the city is provided with 3,800 lakh litres of water on a daily basis.
Currently, the citizens have been facing a 10 per cent water supply cut due to lack of enough water supply. However, if there is consistent rainfall throughout the monsoon season, Mumbai could be relieved of water cut.
