42 families of tabela owners will be loosing their homes to the Metro- 3 as neither Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation nor Aarey Dairy Development has laid out any plan of rehabilitating these families.

In 1952, families of tabela owners were rehabilitated from South Mumbai to Aarey colony. Since then, these families have been handling their business in 32 units of the Aarey colony. However, amongst 32 units, 19 units which have 42 families will be loosing their homes due to the Metro 3 project. The same was conveyed to them during a meeting which was called by the Aarey Dairy Development and MMRC.

“Our tabelas and homes are at the same place and we start our work around 1.30 am. If we are rehabilitated, then how will we work. They should rehabilitate near by Aarey colony. They are not ready with their rehabilitation plan and we will loose our homes. We will not let this happen,” said L J Singh, tabela owner.

Meanwhile, Aarey Dairy Development’s CEO Nathu Rathod said that it is MMRC’s responsibility of rehabilitating the affected families and MMRC has accepted the responsibility. He added that he is in talks with the authorities concerned. Mumbai Live also tried speaking to Rehabilitation and Resettlement department’s chief Maya Patole. She said that she will collect more information and then respond.
