Supreme Court Chief Justice Dhananjay Chandrachud unveiled a handbook on Wednesday. The booklet includes words that highlight gender discrimination, stereotypes about women. A list of alternative words is also given to avoid the use of these words in court proceedings. That's why now words like affair, housewife, prostitute, eve teasing cannot be used in court proceedings.


Chief Justice Chandrachud said that this information booklet gives information about which words are stereotypical, indicate gender discrimination, and which alternative words can be used. The Chief Justice said that these alternative words can be used for pleadings, orders and judgments in the court. This information booklet is for lawyers as well as for judges.

This booklet included words that were still used in the courts. Also told why these words are wrong, with the help of this we will be able to avoid using objectionable language against women.


In this information booklet, words have been suggested in place of affair, sex worker in place of prostitute, street sexual harassment in place of molestation, homemaker in place of housewife, etc.
