Will camping outside civic HQ help launch sports complex?

SHARES

Pradeep Jangam appears to think so. A member of the Jiddi Maratha organisation, Jangam has been camping outside the Mira Bhayandar municipal council headquarters on a protest 'dharna' for the last ten days. His objective - to shake the civic administration out of its slumber and commence operations at the sports complex at New Golden Nest.

The complex, according to Jangam, was constructed three years ago, but never launched. He says an estimated Rs 20 crore was spent on it, but the quality of construction has been suspect. The building has already suffered cracks and the swimming pool is full of stagnant water.

Political parties meanwhile are trading blame. Former Janta Dal corporator Milan Mhatre says the civic officials and political leaders are to blame for the sorry state of affairs. Former Bharatiya Janata Party corporator Prakash Goradia on the other hand, says it is important that the sports complex is thrown open at the earliest to encourage local sports talent.

Jangam meanwhile does not want to give up his crusade. "I shall fight to the finish," he says.
