In a high-profile governing council meeting of the country's richest cricket tournament, Indian Premier League (IPL), the timings of its night matches might be tweaked. The governing council is likely to deliberate on commencing the matches of IPL 2020 at 7:30 pm instead of the usual 8:00 pm.

Meanwhile, during the meeting in Delhi, it is expected that the principal office bearers of the BCCI, including president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah, will take a final decision on the appointment of the three-member Cricket Advisory Committee that will interview the candidates for the national selection panel.

Both Gautam Gambhir and Sulakshana Naik are not eligible for the post. Gambhir, apart from retiring in the 2018/19 season, is also a Member of Parliament (MP), which could disqualify him as per Lodha Committee norms. On the other hand, Naik actively played domestic cricket in 2018/19 and as per the regulations, for anyone to be a member of CAC, he/she needs to be retired from active cricket for at least five years.

Therefore, while Supreme Court is yest to hear the BCCI matter, the office bearers would like to appoint ex-players who are not conflicted.

In the meantime, it is expected that in the second meeting of the IPL GC headed by former Test batsman Brijesh Patel, the itinerary for the 2020 edition will be finalized. More importantly, as per Lodha Committee's recommendation, it is necessary that the IPL final and India's next international fixture has a gap of 15 days.

"The broadcasters want an early start (7 pm or 7:30 pm) along with no doubleheaders on weekends. The matters will be up for discussion. The full schedule of the tournament is likely to be discussed at the GC," a senior BCCI member told PTI.
