The young Indian team led by captain Prithvi Shaw overcame Australia in the final of ICC Under 19 World Cup at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on Saturday, February 3.

Australia won the toss and elected to bat first.

The young Aussies managed to get 216 in 47.2 overs. Jonathan Merlo scored an impressive 76 with bowlers Anukul Roy, Ishan Porel, Shiva Singh and Kamlesh Nagarkoti picking up two wickets each. 

Indian opener Manjot Kalra scored a 101 not out with captain Prithvi Shaw and Shubham Gill in supporting roles. 



Wicketkeeper/batsman Harvik Desai chipped in with a 47 and in a sublime team effort, India won the World Cup. 

Indian top line up has been solid this tournament and Manjot Kalra stood out with his cracking 101 in 102 balls with (8x4, 3x6). Under the coaching of 'The Wall' Rahul Dravid, India has been outstanding throughout the competition. Shubhan Gill was named the player of the tournament for his consistency in batting and helping India throughout the competition. 

India becomes the first team to win the U19CWC four times - 2000, 2008, 2012 and 2018.
