IPL 2019: Mumbai Indians lose their first match against Delhi Capitals

This was Mumbai Indians' debut this IPL season, and team Delhi set a tough target of 217 runs. While Yuvraj Singh held on, the team found it difficult to lead their way to victory, eventually losing against DC by 37 runs.

The first match of Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 was held today, against  Delhi Capitals at Mumbai's Wankhede stadium. Opener Shikhar Dhawan (43), Colin Ingram (47) and Rishabh Pant (78) batted first to beat the target of 214 runs set by the Delhi capitals. However, after chasing the Mumbai team could only make 176 runs registering their first loss at their first match on the home ground.

With an aim to win, Mumbai Indians played their game and were off to a steady start. This game marked MI captain Rohit Sharma's 300th T20 match and he along with Quinton de Kock added 33 runs before Ishant Sharma took the first wicket and Rohit was out on 14 runs. Soon after, DC captain Shreyas Iyer dismissed Suryakumar Yadav on 2 courtesy with a run-out.

De Kock hit four fours and one six and made 27 off 16 balls. Team Mumbai was at 45 runs for 3 wickets after which Yuvraj Singh along with Kieron Pollard made a total of 50 runs before the fourth wicket was taken, where Pollard was out on 21, with two fours and one six.

The unfortunate highlight during the play was when MI's Hardik Pandya was sent back right after the first ball was caught by Axar Patel, leaving the team at 95 in 11.2 overs, with 5 wickets down. The game following was tough for team MI as Krunal Pandya was out after hitting five fours and one six, leaving the game at 32 runs. Yuvraj Singh held on to chase in the debut match. With five fours and three sixes, he made 53 runs from 35 balls, however, MI lost against DC by 37 runs.
