The Royal Challengers Banglore (RCB) defeats the Mumbai Indians by two wickets in the opening match of the Indian Premium League season 14 on April 9.

AB de Villiers played a vital knock of 48 off 27 balls. However, he was run-out in the last over. RCB's new-recruit Glenn Maxwell's huge six of 100m against Krunal Pandya has impressed everyone as the Australian all-rounder did not hit even a single six in IPL 2020.

Batting first, MI wrapped up their innings with 159 for nine in 20 overs. Opener Chris Lynn was his side's top-scorer with 49 runs off 35 deliveries. Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav (31) and Ishan Kishan (28) also made decent contributions to the scoreboard. Harshal Patel was in top form for RCB, taking five wickets (including three dismissals in the 20th over).

MI’s losing streak in their first matches of the tournament continues for the ninth year in the row. But that was almost a champion-level comeback from Mumbai.

RCB took on Mumbai in the first match of IPL 2021 at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium.

None of the teams will be playing their home grounds this season as only six venues - Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Delhi and Ahmedabad - have been chosen for the tournament.
