In the concluding match of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Mumbai Indians registered a nine-wicket win against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and nullified KKR's entry on the IPL qualifiers. With Kolkata out of contention, Sunrisers Hyderabad became the latest entrant to the IPL playoffs.
Mumbai Indians won the toss and put the visitors to bat first who were able to only register 133 runs in 20 overs. Batting first, Chris Lynn scored 41 runs whereas Robin Uthappa scored 40 runs.
While Kolkata's slow run-scoring was a crucial reason for Mumbai's victory, Lasith Malinga scalped three wickets along with two wickets from Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah respectively.
Later in the match, Mumbai batsmen managed to win the match with nine wickets in hand. Skipper Rohit Sharma scored a half-century along with a quick inning from Suryakumar Yadav who hitting the winning six for Mumbai.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad became the first team to qualify with 12 points in the IPL history owing to good Net Run Rate (NRR).
With this win, Mumbai has secured the top spot on the points table and will now face Chennai Super Kings on May 7 in the IPL Qualifier 1.
