After a historic Test series win at Australia against Australia, Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the upcoming three-match ODI series against the Aussies along with the three-match T20 series against New Zealand. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced about his exclusion on January 8, Tuesday, and also declared that Mohammed Siraj will replace him in the ODI squad whereas Siddarth Kaul will take his place in the T20s against New Zealand.

Bumrah was the top bowler in the Test series where he bowled 157.1 overs and picked 21 wickets at an average of 17. He was the Virat’s go-to bowler whenever India needed a breakthrough and was a much-needed boost for the Indian pace attack.

Keeping in mind the workload of the bowler, it was best felt to give him adequate rest ahead of the home series against Australia,” the BCCI release said.

Meanwhile, Siraj has scalped seven wickets in his last Ranji Trophy game against Punjab and had been in a great form in three first-class games against New Zealand A away from home. On the other hand, Kaul has scalped ten wickets in his last two first-class against Kerala and Hyderabad.

India will begin their three-match ODI series against Australia, beginning from January 12 (Saturday) and will end the tour in Melbourne on January 18. Then they’ll travel to New Zealand for five ODIs from January 23 followed by three T20s beginning from February 10. Australia are scheduled to tour India in February and March ahead of the 2019 World Cup for five ODIs and two T20Is.
