Two days after his IPL team, Mumbai Indians, retained the high-profile Twenty20 league’s title, all-rounder Krunal Pandya, was detained at the T2 International Airport by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for alleged possession of undisclosed gold and expensive watches.

According to the reports, Pandya on November 12 was stopped on the basis of a tip-off and found to allegedly have in possession two diamond-studded Audemars Piguet and two Rolex models that were not declared to Customs. The total value of the watches is estimated to be about INR 1 crore.

The 29-year-old cricketer was detained on his arrival from Dubai, where he had gone for three months for the just-concluded IPL. He landed via a charted flight at around 4:30 pm. After three hours of interrogation, Pandya was allowed to leave after the watches were confiscated.

Imported luxury watches can attract duty of up to 38.5 per cent of value that is in excess of the duty-free allowance. In this case, the duty comes to about INR 35,000.

Krunal Pandya is the elder brother of India all-rounder Hardik Pandya. He has played 18 T20 Internationals for India and was part of the Mumbai Indians team which won its record fifth IPL title on November 10, defeating Delhi Capitals in the final match in Dubai.
