The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had recently declared that the fourth ODI match between India and West Indies would be held at Mumbai’s Brabourne stadium instead of Wankhede stadium. The decision came after Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) told BCCI that they were suffering from financial constraint and therefore, had asked the cricket board to organise the fourth ODI. However, BCCI refused to organise the match and shifted the venue to Cricket Club of India’s (CCI) Brabourne stadium.

Subsequently, this led to the outrage of a fumed MCA who approached Bombay High Court stating that BCCI had changed the India- West Indies venue without official communication with the cricket board. While the hearing for the same was held on Wednesday, October 17, the Indian Women’s Cricket Team has been suffering from the collateral damage.

The Women’s World T20 World Cup is about to begin November onwards and therefore, the ladies need to practice prior to the tournament. However, amidst the clash of MCA and BCCI, the Women’s team has been suffering as they are losing precious training time and Committee of Administrators (CoA) member, Diana Edulji has expressed her displeasure over the gender-biased attitude of the authorities.

As a result of the BCCI-MCA clash, the women’s team could not train at Wankhede stadium for the first day of their preparatory camp. Blaming the officials, Edulji alleged that they would have never given such treatment to the men’s team.

The team was supposed to assemble at Wankhede to begin their preparations for the World T20 in West Indies and start a six-day camp before departing for the Caribbean. The first day was supposed to be a Yo-Yo test but due to the issue, the team had to use the day getting visas for the players.

On Monday, MCA told BCCI that Wankhede stadium will not be hosting the camp.
