The second edition of the Mumbai Indians' MI Junior initiative began in Mumbai on February 3, 2020. Now the grassroots cricket initiative by Mumbai Indians, MI Junior 2020 has reached Nagpur. The second edition of this initiative was expanded to Pune & Nagpur with an introduction of an additional U16 Boys category. The MI Junior in its inaugural year was held in two categories i.e. U14 Boys & U16 Girls in Mumbai in 2019.

The Nagpur city leg MI Junior 2020 commenced on Monday, February 17, with the competition in Under-14 boys and U-16 Boys & Girls categories. This leg will witness the fierce competition between 56 young teams through 95 matches across the 3 categories. The finals for the Nagpur city leg will be held in the first week of March. Meanwhile, the winners of the city leg will qualify for the playoffs and subsequent finals scheduled in Mumbai from March 16.

The competition was inaugurated by Mumbai Indians Senior Talent Scout, Kiran More along with Prashant Vaidya, Vice-President, Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA). Earlier, the MI Junior 2020 initiative had kicked off after Mumbai Indians Director of Cricket Operations, Zaheer Khan had inaugurated the second edition at the National Cricket Club, Cross Maidan on February 3.

The initiative by Mumbai Indians owner Nita Ambani looks to encourage sports as an integral part of the education system.

In other news, Mumbai will be hosting the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 opener match as well as the final match. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to declare the schedule for knockout matches. However, the last league game is scheduled for May 17, between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians in Bengaluru.
