Mumbai cricketer Prithvi Shaw will be making his Test debut on Thursday after his inclusion in the 12-man squad announced by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the Test series against West Indies. On Wednesday, the Indian cricket board confirmed that Shaw will be handed his Test cap in the match against West Indies on October 4 and will be the 293rd Test player of India.

While the Mumbai batsman will have a confirmed debut, there is no place for Hanuma Vihari or Mayank Agarwal in the squad. Despite his decent performance during the Test series against England, Vihari failed to secure his place.

With 1,418 runs in 14 First-Class matches, Prithvi Shaw is in a run-rich form. With such a staggering record, he received his maiden call-up to the Test side during the England tour and was named in the last two Test matches but Shaw was not included in the playing XI in both.

Meanwhile, the batting lineup is strong with the likes of KL Rahul and Shaw as openers, followed by Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane and Rishabh Pant. So, the bowling attack by India would be interesting to look forward as there are three spinners and three pacers in the 12-man squad.

India 12-man squad for 1st Test: Virat Kohli (c), KL Rahul, Prithvi Shaw (debut), Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammad Shami, Umesh Yadav, Shardul Thakur.
