In the Duleep Trophy Final between India Red and India Blue, Mumbai’s Prithvi Shaw scored a 100 in his Duleep Trophy debut and emulated the little master Sachin Tendulkar. He has been at the forefront of Mumbai’s young batting line-up and has shown tremendous potential to make it international someday.

Why is this big?

Prithvi is the youngest Indian to score a Duleep Trophy century at 17 years and 320 days and that too in the final! Sachin has been renowned for being the only player to hit a ton on his first class debuts in the Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy and Irani Trophy.
Prithvi having scored a 100 in his first Ranji Trophy game is well on his way. In 2013, Shaw had shot to fame for his record breaking 546 in a Harris Shield fixture. This record was later broken by Pranav Dhanawade.

India Red captain Dinesh Karthik opted to bat first. Opening the batting with fellow Mumbai batsman Akhil Herwadkar, they put on 74 runs for the first wicket before Herwadkar departed by being run out. India Red ended the day at 317 for 5 with Prithvi Shaw 154(249) and Dinesh Karthik 111(155). The pressure is now on India Blue captain Suresh Raina and team.
