Ahead of the third test match between India and Australia, Indian cricket team, including the isolated five, and support staff have tested negative for coronavirus. This news comes as a big relief to all cricketing fans in the country.
Earlier in the week, five members of the Indian cricket team including Rohit Sharma and Prithvi Shaw were put in isolation after they allegedly breached the bio-bubble protocol by going for a meal on New Year's Day.
BCCI on January 4 released a statement that reads, "Playing members of the Indian Cricket Team and support staff underwent an RT-PCR Test for Covid-19 on January 3, 2021. All tests have returned negative results".
The five players, namely Rohit Sharma, Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill and Navdeep Saini, had gone to a restaurant in Melbourne. An excited fan had not only recorded them enjoying a meal but also tweeted about getting a hug from Pant. A day later, the fan retracted the claim after it raised serious questions on a breach of protocol in view of the outbreak of the coronavirus.
The third Test match between Australia and India in the four-match series is scheduled to start on January 7 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). The series is currently tied at 1-1.
Rohit Sharma is expected to join the team from the third test match. Virat Kohli will be missing this match as he has come back to India for his paternity leave.
