In their opening game of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Mumbai defeated Baroda by nine wickets as skipper Rahane, Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer scored half-centuries on Wednesday. Both the teams have been placed in the Elite Group A for the National One-Day Championship. While Mumbai easily managed to overpower Baroda, young batsman Prithvi Shaw missed his well-deserved century by 2 runs.

Winning the toss, Baroda chose to bat first. With a brilliant batting show from all-rounder Krunal Pandya who hit 85 runs (eight fours and two sixes), Baroda managed to score 238 runs in 49.5 overs. However, with the help of a quality top-order batting, Mumbai chased down the target in just 41.3 overs.

Meanwhile, Shaw and Rahane (79 not out) managed to put up a 137-run opening stand. However, after Shaw’s departure, Shreyas Iyer scored (56 not out) and managed to earn the victory from there.
