IPL 2020 : Virat Kohli fined for slow over-rate against Kings XI Punjab

The IPL 2020 is off to a flying start. The opening match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians drew record rating and there is good interest in the ongoing matches. On Thursday, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) clashed with Kings XI Punjab in which the latter posted a comfortable victory. 

Virat Kohli, who is the captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during this match. As per the statement released, Kohli will have to bear a fine of Rs 12 lakh for this offence. This amount was keeping in mind that this was team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, 

Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and opted to field first. Kings Xi Punjab had a good start and set a target of 207 runs.  The star player of Punjab's batting was KL Rahul who played an unbeaten knock of 132 runs off just 69 balls. The first innings lasted a little over an hour and 50 minutes.

In return, Banglore's batting order crumbled and the team recorded a 97-run defeat.

With this match, KXIP is on the top of the IPL 2020 leaderboard. Their next match of the series is against Rajasthan Royals of Sunday, September 27. 

So far Royal Challengers Banglore too has recorded one win and one defeat in IPL 2020. They won their last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad by 10 runs. Kohli's gang would be playing Mumbai Indians on Monday, which is September 28.
