The Chennai Super Kings’ home matches at MA Chidambaram Stadium in the Tamil Nadu capital will be moved to another venue in the wake of protests over the Cauvery water dispute.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was informed that it has become difficult for the police to handle the situation and the dispute has created a volatile political situation in Chennai.

The Board is now assessing other cities to stage CSK’s home games. According to IPL sources, Visakhapatnam is the front-runner from among the four cities, the other three being Trivandrum, Pune, and Rajkot.

On Tuesday, hundreds of activists of Tamil outfits blocked the arterial Anna Salai and TTK Salai, affecting traffic. They were subsequently chased away by the police before the start of Chennai’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders.

During the game, at least four protestors were detained by the police for hurling a shoe at CSK's Ravindra Jadeja during the eighth over of the KKR innings. The shoe missed the player at long-on, and fell near the boundary rope, near South Africans Faf du Plessis and Lungi Ngidi.
