Mumbai Police on Thursday, December 17, arrested two weekly newspaper reporters for allegedly extorting money from a spa owner.

As per reports, the duo allegedly approached the spa owner and demanded a sum of ₹2 lakhs. Moreover, they were caught red-handed taking ₹55,000 from the victim. The journalists have been identified as Abhinandan Paliwal and Ankit Gupta who introduced themselves as reporters to the spa owner and threatened to conduct a raid at the spa by accusing the owner of carrying out illegal activities. Moreover, Deepak Phatangare, ACP, Goregaon, informed, "A salon and spa owner who is a woman complained that two journalists were extorting money from her for the last 2 months. We laid a trap and caught them."

The complainant woman, aged 33, owns a beauty parlour and spa shop near the Big Boor School at Siddharth Circle in Goregaon. For the past several days, the accused had been complaining about the beauty parlour near the woman. Fearing the threat of the two, the woman paid ₹50,000, however, in a few days, the two started demanding a ransom of ₹50,000 more. In view of the situation, the woman finally lodged a complaint with the Goregaon police.

After the lodging of the complaint by the woman, the police have arrested the duo on charges under sections 120 (b), 384, 385 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Moreover, the police have informed that a case has been registered against him at Samtanagar police station before.
