Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has informed that nearly 2.75 lakh offences have been registered under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) since the coronavirus lockdown began. 1,347 offences against vehicles have been registered for illegal transportation and a fine of worth ₹29.66 crores has been imposed.
In Maharashtra, almost 2,75,990 offences have been registered under section 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the IPC from March 22 to October 3 and 39,039 persons were arrested.
Meanwhile, 96,541 vehicles were seized and fines worth ₹29.66 crores have been collected for various offences. Although police personnel and healthcare workers working round the clock amid the coronavirus pandemic, multiple incidents have been reported where they have been attacked.
The police department in Maharashtra has been directed to take strict action against such people. Nearly 369 incidents of attack on police personnel have been reported and a total of 898 persons have been arrested.
During the lockdown period, the police helpline number - 100 - was dialled nearly 1,13,680 times. As per the police department, they received and addressed close to 1.13 lakh calls.
Meanwhile, the railway police have exposed a gang that was issuing passes to the citizens through fake QR codes, by telling about the travel permits in Mumbai local trains.
As of now, the general passengers are not allowed to travel in the local trains due to the coronavirus outbreak. The COVID-19 cases in Mumbai have been increasing on a daily basis.
