Yusuf Lakdawala, the prime accused in a ₹50-crore land fraud case, was arrested at Ahmedabad airport when he was trying to escape to London.
He was accompanied by two Assistant Police Inspectors (API) from the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) to his house for a search operation.

However, during the search operation, the two Assistant Police Inspectors, Vilas Rathod and Sandeep Sawant allowed Lakdawala to shave, bathe and feast on a meal of chicken biryani along with them at his residence in Bandra without a requisite sanction.

This came into light when Yusuf was taken into custody and a senior inspector observed his clean shaven face. On interrogating Yusuf, he confessed that the API's allowed him to shave, bathe and eat biryani.

The accused in custody is allowed to have home food only on specific court orders. Under no circumstances should the accused be left alone when he is taken out of the lock-up for any investigation purpose as there are chances that he may try to escape or attempt to harm himself.

However, there have been many instances in the past where high-profile accused offenders were allowed to have these exceptions without permission.
