An accident took place around 10:30 am on Wednesday night during the work of Miragaon metro station on Dahisar to Miraroad Metro 9 line. The cement mixer operator died in the accident. Taking a serious note of the matter, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRD) has imposed a fine of INR 30 lakhs on contractor J Kumar. A fine of INR 10 lakhs has been imposed on the consulting company. At the same time, immediate assistance of two lakhs has been given to the relatives of the deceased and an independent inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the matter. Further action will be taken after the report of this committee.


Metro 9 is under construction by MMRDA. Work at Miragaon Metro station started at half past ten on Wednesday night. During this work, the cement mixer fell into a pit dug on the side. The operator was evacuated by the contractor and MMRDA immediately initiated rescue operations. The cement mixer operator was seriously injured in the accident. He was immediately shifted to the hospital for treatment. But he died during treatment.

Taking serious notice of this accident, Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee has imposed a fine of INR 10 lakh on contractor J Kumar and INR 10 lakh on consultant May Systra Consortium Company. Strict implementation of this policy has been directed to all the contractors, setting a zero accident policy during every project work. Meanwhile, due to the accident in this project, immediate punitive action has been taken against the contractor and the consultant. MMRDA has informed that an independent committee has been formed to investigate the matter and strict action will be taken against the culprits after the report of this committee.


Two lakhs has been given to the relatives of the deceased immediately. Necessary assistance under the Workmen's Compensation Act as well as the Building and Construction Act will also be provided to the next of kin. Mukherjee has instructed the contractor to take necessary measures at the project site to prevent such an accident from happening.
