A young man, 25, died as he drowned in the drain near Eastern Expressway Signal in Kurla. The incident happened Friday night when the deceased was heading somewhere and fell into the drain.
Due to less light, the young man couldn’t spot the opened drain and fell into it. Until the locals pulled him out, he had already died. Earlier, a 3-year-old child also died by falling into a drain near Chembur.
Locals informed that they had requested BMC officials and corporators to cover the drains many times. However, the officials did not act on their demands and this has led to agitation among the locals.
There have been multiple cases where people have died by falling in the drain. Thus, BMC decided to cover the drains and manholes but despite that, there are several manholes still uncovered. This poses a threat to people’s lives.
