On Monday, July 31, a shocking incident unfolded aboard the B5 coach of the Jaipur-Mumbai Express (Train No. 12956) as a constable from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) opened fire on passengers, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.

Among the deceased were two passengers, an RPF Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), and a pantry car employee. The incident took place between Bhayander and Mira Road stations while the train was arriving from Jaipur to Mumbai.

According to officials, the event occurred at approximately 5:23 am. The constable, identified as Chetan Kumar, shot his colleague before shooting other passengers.

DRM Neeraj Kumar told reporters, "A regrettable occurrence involving the Mumbai-Jaipur Superfast Express has been reported. Chetan Kumar, an RPF constable, opened fire on ASI Tikaram Meena during the incident, which also resulted in the shooting of three other passengers," as reported by ANI.

The constable then pulled the chain and escaped the scene at Dahisar station. However, the Government Railway Police (GRP) managed to arrest the accused constable with the weapon at Mira Road station. The accused has been brought to Borivali Police Station.

Initial investigations revealed that the constable's mental health was not in good condition. He also had a history of having a "short fuse" and a hot-headed temperament, as stated by Inspector General of RPF (Western Railway) Praveen Sinha.

Among the victims of this act was 58-year-old Kadarbhai Bhanpurwala, who was on his way from Madhya Pradesh to Mumbai. He was a shopkeeper and resided in Nalasopara.

The deceased RPF ASI, identified as Mr. Meena, hailed from Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan. He was just two years away from retirement. His surviving family members include his 80-year-old mother and his wife, as his children are already married.

The family is set to receive a settlement of INR 25 lakh. They will also receive an additional INR 15 lakh in aid as compensation from the Railways.

Senior officials, including GRP commissioner Ravindra Shisave, arrived at the scene to examine the events leading up to the shooting. The police are actively investigating the cause of the gunshots while also questioning witnesses to gain further insights.
