A group of individuals has been accused of defrauding four people by promising them jobs in the railway department in Mumbai. The victims have lost a total of INR 32 lakh. The police have started an investigation into the matter.

The scammers took lot of efforts to make their fraud believable. They made fake identity cards and appointment letters with the railway department's seal and emblem.

The matter came to surface when a 40-year-old resident of Parbhani made the police complaint. In October, he came in contact with the fraudsters through a family friend. He was told that a man in Latur could get him a permanent position in railway department for INR 8 lakh.

The victim followed through the process. The accused even arranged for the complainant's medical examination at JJ Hospital. Following this, the victim received a fake joining letter bearing the railways mark and logo. Over time, the victim paid the accused the total amount.

However, after this when the victim did not receive any permanent assignment/ duty at the railway department in March, he tried to contact the accused but was not reachable. Post that, the victim visited the railway office in CST, where he was told that all the documents they had been given were fake.

Later, the victim filed an official complaint in the police. It is registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including section 34 for common intention, section 406 for criminal breach of trust, section 420 for cheating and dishonest delivery of property, section 465, 467 and 468 for forgery, and 471 for using a forged document as real.

It was then discovered that three other people had been conned in a similar manner. The investigation is ongoing.
