The Azad Maidan unit of Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) seized nearly 500 kg of marijuana from a truck in Vikhroli and arrested three people as well.

The ANC had received information that a truck will be coming to Mumbai carrying marijuana from Malegaon, Nashik. Likewise, under the supervision of Shivdeep Lande, ANC DCP, they lay a trap on Eastern Express Highway. In the wee hours of Tuesday, the ANC seized nearly 500 kg of marijuana worth ₹1.8 Cr.

On a daily basis, farmers and sellers from Nashik’s Lasalgaon market come to Mumbai to sell onions which are brought in trucks. Usually, trucks which are full of onions have a foul smell. The drug traffickers used this as an opportunity and decided to smuggle drugs under the disguise of onions.

ANC is now interrogating the suspects to know about their plans of delivering a huge quantity of marijuana. Meanwhile, the police have registered a case under Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act.

261 kg marijuana seized

In 2017, ANC filed 71 cases, arrested 92 drug traffickers and seized drugs worth ₹4.36 Cr.
